Prepare for CBRN

CBRN = Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear. Sometimes an E is added at the end for Explosives. Before CBRN or CBRNE was used, NBC was used for Nuclear Biological Chemical. When the E is used, sometimes it's capitalized E and sometimes it's lowercase e. Either way, it means the same thing; explosives. Or explosions. Singular or plural? Exactly.

Potassium Iodide tablets/pills are only useful for some people in a nuclear power plant emergency (not nuclear bombs), there are possible side effects, and they only protect the thyroid from iodide radiation. (CDC)

Preparedness and action are needed before a CBRN event happens. This includes obtaining radiation detectors, taking radiation readings, and having a radiation monitoring network. That's where Safecast can help you and you can help Safecast. https://safecast.org

Most emergency response organizations in the U.S. use the National Incident Management System (NIMS). (Or compontents of it. For example, fire companies use the Incident Command System (ICS) component on every call.)
Businesses that want to plan for contingencies such as natural disasters, cyber attacks, or even CBRN conditions could benefit from implementing some compontents of NIMS into their planning and operations. This can enable better communication and operations between a variety of entities to continue with operations no matter what is happening (resiliency). See this Fact Sheet for Private Sector Organizations.

Just a note: NIMS isn't something that someone else does for you. Like any other management practice, it's something you learn and do. Something people in an organization learn and do. It's not a top down command and control system from the federal government. It's not just fire, EMS, and police. If businesses are unprepared, think of everthing that stops when businesses stop and the economy stops. It's not other people coming in to save you from yourself or your own lack of foresight. Local people can plan best for their local contingency operations...if they actually put forth the effort to identify contingency scenarios (floods, mass casualty, CBNRE, cyber attack, internet outage, phone system outage, long-term power outage, supply chain issues, etc.), plan for them, and train for them. Even an occasional tabletop exercise is better than no practice drill at all.
